The Bell Tolls for the GOPe

The bell has rung repeatedly for all of the candidates the GOPe has endorsed.  The fat lady has sung their sad song of defeat on numerous occasions this election cycle. So what is the GOPe next move?   Try anything and everything to hold on to their power.
Power has got to be more addictive than any drug out there.  Why else would the establishment not want to throw their support behind the leading nominee?  Why wouldn't they try to win?  It is because neither of these people are promising them that they will help them maintain that power they have become so addicted to.
You've got Trump and Cruz left for the Republican ticket; Kasich is behind Rubio who is already OUT of the race, so I am not counting on Kasich to make a come back.  The options look dim for the Gope, right?  They are going to have to finally accept the will of the people supporting their party, right?  No!  They still have the convention!
There is still hope for the GOPe, right?  The cynical side says they will get what they want either way, even if that means allowing Hillary to win.  If the GOPe chooses not to accept the primary and caucus voting results they will face backlash that may mean their demise IF the people rise up against them.
What the GOPe is doing to bring down Trump and Cruz is equivalent to a child not getting their candy at the check out line in the grocery store.  Yelling, kicking, screaming, hitting... all because they are not getting their way.
The GOP Elites are spoiled children in need of a good spanking.
Boehner says Cruz is "Lucifer in the flesh" and that he is a "miserable S.O.B."  Really?  Come on now.  Boehner is a spineless DC conformist, why do his opinions matter?  He's part of the GOPe.  He has a few favors to keep.  He is part of the distrust of the American government.
Politics is a dirty grouping of people in search of power.  That power stems from money, LOTS of money.  Those who have a majority of it typically end up coming out on top.  Those who don't have a staggering amount of cash flow are usually left in the dust unless they are willing to have a louder voice than their opponent.  Just because politics is a who's who with buckets of money being burned in a fireplace doesn't mean that the people have to accept it.
The optimistic side of me is noticing distain and unrest with traditional ways things are done in politics and that is why we are seeing movements such as Trump, Cruz, and (I hate to say it) even Sanders.
The GOPe will not last if they continue down their current path of ideology.  Those in charge of the GOP aren't necessarily conservative, they just have a lot of vested interest whether it be for their business, but it all boils down to money.  Which is why when I hear of them complaining that person X isn't "conservative enough" I get a kick out of it.  Where is the compromise that the Democrats and GOPe clamor for?  After all, isn't that what they tell the people how things should get done in DC?  That logic dictates that they should support and try to help the winner of the vote win this November.
The bell is starting to ring louder for those within the GOPe.  Either way, I think we are about to witness a new Republican party emerging.

Put Down That Phone!

As I am aging, I am witnessing the progression of technology and it is truly fascinating.  For instance, if you have no idea what an answer is, or you feel that you need validation, all you have to do is pull out your smart phone and Google comes to the rescue!  (Personally the instant gratification, especially when trying to prove your argument/point to a friend or spouse, is greatly gratifying and I appreciate this part of technology.)  We have an encyclopedia at our finger tips at every waking moment of the day.  This is truly momentous!
    Books?  Who needs them?!
In our society today, one's value depends on how quickly we can respond to texts, emails, or calls.  Business doesn't necessarily happen in offices anymore, so being flexible and accessible is a great asset.  Big deals are struck most often in our homes or vehicles, outside of traditional business hours.  For that reason, staying connected is invaluable.
We need this piece of technology, our smart phones, to find out how others rated that restaurant we've been wanting to try.  To keep in contact with people that we were kind of friends with in school but wouldn't recognize in passing.  We learn everything we could ever want to know of a celebrity.  No longer are maps necessary when we can get turn by turn directions and know how long the drive will be.
     Our lives are over shared.
Smart phones and social media are the way of the world now, but it is hampering our productivity, social interactions, and our culture.
If you ever have a chance to look at someone's resume, I'd encourage it.  It sheds light on how social norms have shifted.  People in their late teens and early twenties are short handing words on their resumes like its Twitter.  Trust me, it's happening and it's dreadful.

We are not allowing ourselves to live in the moment; everything needs a photo or a video and MUST  be shared.... we all know what someone else had for dinner last night.

Short attention spans are developing and we are living in a society with people who get their news strictly by reading headlines.  Interacting with people in real life is becoming passé but also an art form at the same time.  If you go out to dinner typically you don't have a conversation but instead are out in public eating while catching up on what's new on Facebook.
In all honesty, it's a sad reality.
What has happened to make us believe we have to be accessible every moment of every day?  Part of it is that is just the transition of business in this modern time, and part of it is the modern "Keeping Up with the Jones'" mentality.  In turn we're cutting out valuable play time with our kids, spouses, friends, and family.
When was the last time you held a conversation with a stranger that had nothing to do with exchanging pleasantries?  Why is it now that when someone loses their temper, or someone is being arrested do we feel like we need to film it on our phones?  What is it we are trying to accomplish with this?  The answer is simple.  We're in search of going viral and getting our few seconds of fame, of course!
Smart phones are becoming everyone's chances of striking it big.  They are in search of their own celebrity because that equals legacy, fame, and affluence.  People are seeking validation from strangers rather than one's self.
Go off the grid as often as you can.  There is a better world out there than what glows in the palm of your hand.

The Tide Extension to Virginia Beach

The chill of Tuesday afternoon in Virginia Beach was welcomed to counter the heated discussions in a packed Virginia Beach City Council chamber.  More than half in attendance were Pro Light Rail and spoke passionately about how and why Virginia Beach should approve the MOU.  The MOU passed 9-2, with Moss and Dyer being the two opposed.
I am not for this proposed project.  It is not going to accomplish what I believe people think it will, but let's expand on the idea of Light Rail.

Let's start with the Tide.  The Tide in Norfolk is losing money hand over fist.  It was over budget on what was originally proposed for the construction.  For those who say that they want Light Rail in Virginia Beach because it would be such a great investment, let's look at our neighbor.  We have to ask ourselves why is the Tide failing?  We have to remember that this was a great investment for Norfolk as well. If Virginia Beach getting Light Rail is supposed to be a huge benefit, why aren't they using what Norfolk has to offer en masse to better prove their point as to how much value it brings to the city?
People who relocated to our area from larger cities want that "Walkable" lifestyle back that they had in places like DC.   Certain communities like what we see in Town Center are offering the live where you play kind of lifestyle, but we're not a big city like DC.  While living in an urban lifestyle is great for some, it isn't for others.
To further say that Light Rail is what all Millenials and downsizing Baby Boomers want and will take into consideration before moving here is false.  I am lumped into the Millenial category and I do not want to live in an urban environment.  I'm happy for those who do, but please don't believe that is what every person wants.  The suburban lifestyle is still a way of life that some people prefer.
If we don't get Light Rail the city will die!  Yes, there were numerous people who said we would be sentencing our city to a slow and painful death without Light Rail.  Let's be honest here, Virginia Beach will probably suffer a death more painful than if we were to lose any of the military bases. Why not focus on keeping the military happy and put energy towards a small subsection of the population that may or may use this piece of transportation.  Plus our city continues with construction of homes, apartments, hospitals, and colleges.  This wouldn't be happening if we were dying.  We've made out pretty well without it and will continue to do so.
Businesses want mass transportation as an option for their employees.  Sounds reasonable.  Let's discuss what is viable for this area.  Buses would do a better job at getting people where they need to go.  A reliable and efficient bus system would be able to reach more of the population, so why not push to make the bus systems more efficient.  I would bet that if we were to transform the bus system to be an effective and reliable mode of transportation, it would be used more!  We could even set up certain buses to be an Express service, offering non-stop service to and from the Oceanfront from Town Center, the Airport, wherever there was a need.  The bus system as it is now is horrid.  It takes two hours to get around the city, no thanks.
Has anyone even asked how much more it will cost to extend it all the way to the oceanfront?  If all costs remain the same, would we still get half of the $300 million dollars per three miles of track from the state?  It's roughly about 10 miles to hit the oceanfront from Town Center, so if we do not have any more state funding coming in from that state and let's stay with the cost of $300 million dollars cost for three miles, THAT'S quite a bit of funds.
Light Rail to the Naval Bases is a resounding no from me.  We cannot afford to have any kind of security breach when it comes to our bases and our citizens.  Tickets are not checked now for the Tide, so how would Virginia Beach ensure those riders are not only paying, but are not terrorists?
I still do not understand this whole argument of "inclusion". It sounds like people are trying to make themselves feel good about extending the service from Norfolk for whatever reason.  Light Rail will bring us together as a region?  How?
This three miles is supposed to be an investment for our city; a foundation of what will be an extension to the oceanfront.  $300 million dollars is a hefty price tag for a foundation when it has been studied to say it will not reduce congestion, nor will it help our environment.  This is not the right answer at this time.

So Long GOP! Don't Let the Door Hit You Where the Good Lord Split Ya!

I have been raised to appreciate the value that comes from work, from patriotism, from being an educated individual.  I was raised by two Republican parents, who I know wanted better for me than they had.  I guess you could say I was indoctrinated to the American Dream, and by all accounts I am a believer in what the Founding Father's established.  It is because of my beliefs and how revered I hold this nation that I am happy to see the GOP failing.
Yes, absolutely I am happy they, the GOPe, are getting push back in the form of Trump and Cruz and the people supporting them.  I am happy, no let me correct myself, I'm ecstatic that the end is looming near for the Republican Establishment!
Do I still consider myself to be a Republican?  Yes and no.  I consider myself to be what the Republicans first established themselves to be; a grouping of people who opposed executive tyranny, supported a free market, a party who was unabashedly unafraid to go against the Democrats.  I do not align myself with this puny excuse of wealthy politicians and lobbyists leading the party today.  I do not support this pitiful, weakened shell of Republicans in Washington who don't understand the plight of the average American.  This weakened group who has caved to the will of the Democrats time and time again.  Republicans who are so well mixed within the Democratic party that you cannot see who stands with the core values that founded the Republican party any more.  I don't want to be associated with this current majority in the Republican party, mainly because I want to fight for what I know to be right.

These SAME Republicans and Elites who are so nervous about losing power that they asked candidates within our own party to sign a pledge to support the eventual victorious nominee.... Now there have been talks that they, the GOPe, would rather lose than have the remaining candidates elected?  That they are preparing to lose this election all to save face, but most of all to save their power.  Lovely.
In the words of my generation, I'm not down with that.
I am not angry that none of the remaining candidates have said they will support the nominee. Why would I be when the leaders that be can't get their affairs in order and support what the people want?  In all likelihood we are heading to a brokered convention and it will be here that we will see the GOPe in top form.  The GOPe will hand deliver THEIR puppet, aka candidate, of choice and it's going to get ugly.  Lord help up all if they try to give us Romney again....

Prevailing Terrorism

Like an open concept floor plan, Europe continues to be a safe-haven for ISIS and their operations.  Partly due to the open border policy and partly due to the blind eye that the government has towards terrorist threats that aren't considered Politically Correct.  Europe knows the danger but is in no way able to confront it nor manage it.... Seriously though, who thinks it is a good idea to publish information of a newly captured ISIS combative?
Now the Taliban in Pakistan, who are trying to remind people how dangerous they are, bombed an Easter Celebration.  All those souls who were lost are gone just for celebrating a different religion in the Middle East.
Sadly, I do believe these kinds of attacks will continue to happen. They will continue until the world, and this includes world leaders, unite against this deadly religious ideology....  And I am sorry to say that we won't have this happen unless we have American leadership on this front who oppose and acknowledge terrorism.

It has taken John Kerry and the Obama administration at least 7 years to publically condemn the slaughtering of Christians when we all knew this was happening in the world.  The proof was right before them but they refused, for whatever reason, to publicly recognize this evil.   Obama in one of his many "I'm going to apologize for the United States" speeches invoked the Crusades and slavery in one of many attempts to take the heat off those who murder in the name of Islam.  It's exceptionally rare for Obama, Kerry, or any one of his cabinet members to condemn violence carried out by ISIS or the Taliban with any passionate rhetoric.  For example, when Obama was addressing the attack in Brussels while in Cuba, he began his speech to those in attendance with, "Please indulge me, I want to comment on the terror attacks that have taken place in Brussels...."  I never would have thought that publically extending our support to an ally is one of indulgence, Mr. President.  Sorry that this terrorist attack occurred while you were laughing it up with a savage dictator.

Do I think the President and his administration enjoys hearing of people being murdered, no, of course not.  I DO believe it is their Political Correct ideology that is preventing them from publicly criticizing religious attacks in the name of Islam.  To do so will undermine EVERYTHING of their narrative and belief system.  The Obama administration is one full of intellectual liberals who are witnessing their hopes of a utopia brought forth by them crumbling at their feet.  They are a collective bunch of cowards.

Brussels Attack

As I write this the death toll is at 31 and 180 people are reported injured after bombs exploded at the airport and subway system.  ISIS is claiming ownership of this new attack on Western civilization, stating this attack is revenge for Mosul.
I waited to hear from Obama... I think I will always be in some way WAITING for our President to say anything of merit... and once he publicly asked for unity to end terrorism I could not have been more angry and less underwhelmed with his passion and him as a leader.   If Obama had just as much, even just a quarter, passion and disdain for terrorism that he does for those who commit senseless acts of gun violence, I think the world would believe and follow our lead in ending terrorism.
His lack of conviction and determination to publicly declare we are dealing with a legitimate threat from ISIS has me just as angry at him as I am with ISIS.  It's almost like Obama doesn't WANT to be bothered with anything to do with terrorism.  He couldn't even lead the US when WE were ATTACKED on our own soil!  All we hear is how much of a racist, bigoted group we are in America.  How we need to be understanding... how any attack on us is essentially what we deserve.
The world is watching, ISIS is watching, and the United State of America is a limp noodle thanks to Obama and his administration.

Why attack Paris and Brussels?  Why not attack Russia?  Simple.  If you attack anyone who is adopting this culture of PC, of not requiring anyone coming in to assimilate, they won't have the heart to retaliate.  If ISIS were to pull this is in Russia, there would be HELL to pay.

I don't think it is coincidental that the attack happened days after the capture of Abdeslam; the attacker from Paris.  I believe it won't be long until we see this connection....

How many more attacks need to happen before world leaders take a serious line against Islamic Terrorism?  Yes, I did say Islamic, because that is exactly what is happening.  These terrorists are using Islam, perverted as it may be, as guidance in their retaliation and justification of their actions.

Pray for those affected.  Pray for those who are elected to lead us.  Pray we elect the best person to lead us out of this enabling PC culture of shame.

The Unexpected Journey of Mohamad Khweis

A family who thought he was "on holiday in Europe," and our American intelligence agency, had no idea that Mohamad Khweis had joined ISIS.  Khweis did turn himself in to the custody of Kurdish forces this week, and is now going to have an intense unknown time of interrogation from numerous intelligence agencies, looking to gain knowledge from this American ISIS defector.
Khweis described himself leaving Virginia to join ISIS with an unnamed woman whose sister is married to an ISIS member.  Once he reached the city of Mosul, life wasn't what he thought it would be saying that, "it was pretty hard to live in Mosul...It's not like Western Countries...there's no smoking".  His day was spent praying, learning Sharia and the Islamic religion for eight hours a day.  Once reality set in for Khweis he wanted to get out of Mosul and back to the US.  Khweis is quoted as saying "I made a bad decision to go with the girl and go to Mosul. At the time I made a decision to go because I wasn't thinking straight, and on the way there I regretted- I wanted to go back."
In all honesty this sounds to me like he had numerous opportunities to return back home to Virginia; between all of the bus rides, overnight stays and plane rides.  He wasn't thinking straight probably because he became infatuated with this woman whose sister was married to an ISIS member.  He probably thought he was going to be "rewarded" from this woman by joining ISIS.  When he wasn't able to do what he wanted, which had to involve smoking, he had what I can only imagine to be a hissy-fit and wanted to go home.
What will happen to him once he comes back to America?  Naturally I would like to see this American, who wasn't on the USA's intelligence watch list, put on trial.  He most assuredly had to have thought that what ISIS could provide was tangible enough to leave the safety of American borders.  He left knowing what the organization stood for.  Everyone knows this is a terrorist group.  He wanted to be a hailed terrorist.  Now let's put him in jail to remember for the rest of his days just what a group like that will lead to.... and that no random person is worth betraying your country.
